Resin Print Science

Understanding the physics behind every parameter LayerCaliber calculates.

⚡ The Exposure Formula
Normal Exposure = Base × Screen × Layer × Temp

Each multiplier is independently calibrated. Screen efficiency reflects mono LCD UV transmittance (~95%) vs RGB (~26%). Layer multiplier compensates for cure depth. Temperature multipliers correct for resin viscosity changes.
🌡 Temperature Science
Below 20 °C: viscosity rises, 1.35× exposure + 2.5 s rest delay. At 21–26 °C (Nominal): baseline 1.00×. Above 27 °C (Optimal): lower viscosity, better UV penetration → 0.90× multiplier. A vat heater belt is the highest-ROI upgrade for cold-climate printers.
↕ Two-Stage Motion (TSMC)
TSMC separates lift into slow peel phase (60 mm/min) to break suction without print failure, then fast travel (180 mm/min). Retract mirrors this in reverse. The Light-Off Delay lets the resin surface re-settle before the next exposure fires.
📐 Bottom Layers
5 bottom layers at elevated exposure anchor the print to the build plate. 6 transition layers ramp exposure linearly down to normal, preventing delamination. Bottom exposure = Normal × 10.5, clamped to 20–35 s (Mono) or 60–80 s (RGB).
🔬 Layer Height Trade-offs
25 µm: finest detail, longer print time (0.78× exposure). 50 µm: balanced quality/speed baseline. 100 µm: rapid prototyping (1.20×). 150–200 µm: engineering drafts only — surface finish shows visible stepping.
🧪 Chemical Safety
Uncured resin is a skin sensitizer and eye irritant. Always wear nitrile gloves and UV-blocking glasses. Cure all IPA wash waste under UV before disposal. Read full Chemical Safety Reference →
